About these Letters

January 12, 2020

Reader,

Several years ago, when I was in a long distance relationship, we wrote letters to one another to stay in touch, and to make sure we spent a little time each day thinking of one another. Life has changed since then – for the better – and I don’t write letters anymore, but I’ve missed the ritual of it. I haven’t been writing as much as I’d like, and it is – in part – because I’ve had no one to write to.

So these are to be my new letters, and while I’m running this blog for myself, I’m writing these words for you – I doubt I’ll ever have a real audience, but this seems the easiest way for me to invent one. So this is a blog for me to talk about what’s on my mind – I expect I’ll be writing about video games, about cooking, about education, about philosophy. Hopefully this introduction is the most pretentious letter I write.

And, hopefully, you don’t expect too much. I’ve always felt that blogging was a little narcissistic, so I’m going to maintain the attitude that you alone are my audience, and that you’re reading not because what I have to say is worth listening to, but because you’re my friend and you care about me. When you do happen across these letters, I hope you find something you enjoy within them. There will be no promotion, no subscription – just text on a page. I hope it’s text you feel is worth reading.

Yours,

S. B.
